Forget about your plan of action

How spring wakes new potential within us while teaching us to surrender.

Change in nature is both gradual and instantaneous. No moment is truly the same. We are graced with a period of golden morning light, and although the nights are still frosty, Winter has become a memory.

I am waking up to a new energy. Like a leaf in the bud, my potential is still hidden from the world and remains largely a secret to myself, too. I am slowly getting to know a new version of myself and feel driven by a mysterious force within me. The instructions I receive can feel strange, disconcerting, or even irrelevant in light of the intentions I set out for myself earlier. It appears I am only offered one step at a time, but I feel energised and activated when I listen and follow through.

With every passing year, as I dare to dream big and set my intentions for the new year, I understand more deeply the importance of releasing control, surrendering, and listening to this force within. In stark contrast, when I try to follow the action plan my logical mind comes up with, things that are supposed to be energising start to feel like a drag. I am swimming against the current, trying to bring about something I am not ready for.

Past experiences taught me that nearly everything I set out to do and achieve largely happened without deliberate, conscious effort on my part. If my intentions, dreams, and aspirations were pure—meaning they came out of a desire to serve and bring more beauty into the world—I felt guided towards my milestones by life itself. The path towards them was often meandering, with strange forks on the road that hardly made sense but, in hindsight, always served their purpose.

I invite you to consider what you set out to do five to seven years ago. I dare to say you have grown and progressed towards your ideals in that time, although the path you took will have been surprising, to say the least, and probably anything but straightforward.

Spring invites you to develop your trust in the autonomous force of life within you. You are on the right path when you let yourself be guided by what energises and activates you. Frustration about the unknown, confusion about where you are going, and why any of it is relevant are all part of the game. Play your part, and your dedication will pay off.
